The match for the Adastral Trophy saw one of the few lovely days this summer with bright sunshine until about an hour after the first tee time when a sudden, sharp shower served to cool everyone down.
Clearly, our team cooled down more than the home team who were able to inflict a comprehensive defeat on us by 5-1. The only face saving performance was by Martin Croker and Joe Bains who managed a convincing win. Phil Sperring was grateful to Nigel Dowdall for stepping in at short notice.
As usual, the New Forest course was in great condition, our hosts very welcoming and the whole event was conducted in the best of spirits.

The Summer Meetiing attracted 42 golfers to Newark which was in the throes of reorganisation. The course played better than we expected and the catering was spot on, so we had another good day there.
Jacqui Francis had a terrific day, her 37 points won the Ladies Cup and the Prue Riddiford Bowl, both from defending champion, Sheila Grant. Affiliated member Peter Dignan had an outstanding round of 43 points, but the Handicap Cup went to John Pearce with 39 points pipping Jon Corlett on countback.
Scores in the Greensomes competition for the Sassoon Cups was excellent. Graham Pearson and Jon Corlett were in 4th place with 40 points beaten on countback by Bernie Vickers and Joe Bradshaw. 2nd with 42 points were Ken Agbonabi and Phil Gough. But the winners with a splendid 43 points were Jacqui Francis and Sheila Grant.
The fixture moved for the first time to Peterborough Milton, a decision which proved popular with all players. The course was fair and very well presented and the catering was spot-on.
We were defending the Beamish Trophy recently superbly refurbished by Robby Boyce. At lunch we were just one hole down, but the younger lads from the RAF played better in the afternoon to win overall by 7 holes, which over 360 holes counts as a narrow victory. Ian Robinson had various problems getting 10 fit players but Jose Zarata and Paul Martin came up trumps.
We return to Peterborough next year and hope this becomes a long-term venue.

The match against the club at Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club took place in perfect weather - bright sunshine and a gentle breeze - over the immaculate links at Deal.
The early matches went mostly in the RAF’s favour, but the final two matches went to the club, resulting in an overall score of a halved match at 3-3. As always, the match was played in excellent spirit and the members were most generous hosts.
We look forward to next year’s match, which will be on the earlier date of Tuesday, 20 May 2025, as the club is hosting a prestigious R & A event in June.

The annual match between the RAFGS and the RNGS was held at West Sussex Golf Club on a a pleasant, if cool day with intermittent sunshine. The course was in excellent condition with fast running fairways.
After the morning foursomes the Navy held a slender advantage of 3 points to 2, but the splendid lunch clearly invigorated the RAF team. After an exciting finish, which went to the last group to finish with a match halved on the 18th, the RAF won the afternoon foursomes 31/2 to 11/2 and the match by 51/2 to 41/2. Mentioned in despatches are Ray Bull, Kevin Burston and Brian Hunt who all won both their matches.
