Although numbers had fallen this year, 23 golfers enjoyed a super day at York Golf Club where the course was in excellent condition. Phil Gough again administered the day superbly.

In beautiful weather the Halifax Trophy was closely fought. Three players scored 36 points. Phil came 3rd but won the Vet’s Salver, Maggie Warriner came 2nd but the best back 9 belonged to a delighted Rick Lipscomb. After lunch a ferocious thunderstorm interrupted proceedings for the 15 holes of Greensomes, but most players returned after taking shelter. In 3rd place with 31 points were Ron Blyth and Gordon Varley, 2nd with 33 were Jenny Smale and John Wood, just pipped on the back 9 by Garry Ridsdale and David Walton who were delighted to be presented with Johnny Johnson’s impressive Mosquitoes.

Supper was first class – a perfect end to a great day.
