The annual match for the James Webster trophy was played at West Hill on a cool but dry day, with the course in excellent condition. For various reasons, West Hill had been unable to field a full team but, with the aid of some RAFGS players drafted in to fill the gaps, the match was played in the usual 6 groups of 4BBB.

All the matches were close and, with two matches to come in, the match was poised at two points each. In the penultimate match, the RAFGS had been behind from the start after losing the first hole, but managed to win the 18th to square the match. With everything resting on the final match, the RAFGS pair of Doug Cooper and Neil Golf managed to win the final three holes to go from two down to one up and seal victory for the RAFGS by three and a half to two and a half.
